Cluster Sizes

Cluster sizes on NTFS partitions have much smaller cluster sizes than FAT partitions. In addition to the default sizes, you also get a choice of using 512 byte clusters regardless of partition size. The default sizes are as follows. Partitions under 512 megabytes have 512 byte clusters. Above 512 megabyte and up to one gigabyte partitions have one kilobyte clusters. Partitions from one gigabyte to two gigabytes have two kilobyte clusters. Finally, partitions of more than two gigabytes default to a cluster size of only four kilobytes! [Int97a] [Fri98]
